Numerical Evaluation of Hydrodynamic Coefficients in Roll Motion

Abstract The determination of ship motions in a seaway heavily depends on hydrodynamic coefficients. However, the coefficients related to roll-motion exhibit nonlinear behavior due viscous effects and relatively small wave damping, which pose significant challenges. To overcome these challenges, several studies have employed computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyze performance, leveraging advancements performance. Nevertheless, limited research has investigated error uncertainty numerical solutions. In this study, we conducted forced oscillation test ship-like section that induces lateral vortex shedding using OpenFOAM with overset grid method.
